Insulation Removal, Air Sealing & Thermal Imaging in Oklahoma City

Some of the most useful insulation work adds no insulation at all. Pulling out contaminated material, sealing the holes beneath it, drying out a crawl space and scanning the house with an infrared camera are the steps that let new insulation in an Oklahoma City home do its job.

How These Systems Differ

The services in this group are the preparation and diagnosis that come before, or instead of, a straight top-up. They exist because insulation cannot perform in a house that leaks attic air into its rooms, sits over a damp crawl space, or has a ceiling covered in material that has already failed. Blowing more fiberglass over those problems hides them. These services find them, remove them or close them off, so whatever goes in afterward starts from a clean, sealed and understood surface.

HEPA vacuum removal takes out attic insulation soiled by rodents or raccoons, soaked by a roof leak, moldy or smoke-damaged, and leaves the ceiling plane exposed. Attic air sealing closes the holes in that ceiling by hand: stacks, top plates, fixtures, flue chases, duct boots, and the attic HVAC platform and return. Crawl space encapsulation treats the other end of the house, with a heavy sealed liner on the ground, closed-cell foam on the walls and rim joists, and a plan to keep the space dry. Thermal imaging ties them together by showing where heat and air are really moving.

These services often run in sequence. A scan confirms the problem, removal clears a failed attic, sealing closes the leaks, new insulation goes in, and a second scan shows the result. They are also sold separately, because not every house needs every step. A clean attic with thin insulation needs sealing and a top-up, not removal. A crawl with standing water needs a drainage fix before it needs a liner. Our job is to do the steps that change the result and to say plainly which ones will not.

Removal & Air Sealing Services

Choosing Between Them

Soiled, wet or smoky attic
Start with HEPA removal if rodents, raccoons, a roof leak or smoke have reached the insulation. Grey-brown or gold pebbles may be vermiculite: stop and have it tested first.
Clean attic, rooms that will not cool
Choose attic air sealing, usually followed by a top-up toward R-49. Sealing the duct boots, return and HVAC platform matters as much as the holes in the ceiling.
Musty smell or sweating ducts below
Look at crawl space encapsulation once drainage is fixed, and check your termite contract before any foam goes on the foundation walls.
Discomfort with no obvious cause
Book a thermal imaging inspection on a hot afternoon or a cold morning before paying for a fix. It shows whether the trouble is the attic, the walls, the ducts or a bonus room.

Removal & Air Sealing: Common Questions

What order should removal, air sealing and new insulation follow?
Removal comes first if the old insulation is contaminated or failed. Air sealing follows while the ceiling plane is exposed and every penetration, boot and platform joint can be reached. Baffles and wind dams go in at the eaves, and then the new insulation is blown to a measured depth. A thermal scan can come before all of it to confirm the problem and after it to show the result. Doing these out of order usually means paying to move insulation twice.
Do I need an energy auditor before any of this work?
Not for the work itself. Some utility or builder programs require an evaluation by a HERS rater or energy auditor before and after the work, and we are neither. If you plan to use a program, check its current rules before work begins, because missing a required pre-work visit can disqualify a project. We can work alongside your rater or auditor and schedule around their visits. If no program is involved, our inspection and scan are usually enough to set the scope.
Can one visit cover more than one of these services?
Often, yes. An attic inspection and a thermal scan fit into the same visit when the weather gives enough contrast, and removal, sealing and re-insulation are commonly done as one continuous job, so the attic is opened once and the HVAC platform is worked around once. Crawl space encapsulation is usually scheduled separately, because the drainage check, the termite contract question and the conditioning plan have to be settled first. We will tell you what combines sensibly and what to leave out.
